The Station Hotel has been run as a pub since the 1950s, with the origins of the building dating back to the 19th century when it was a part of the local railway. The pub sits on the outskirts of the busy market town of Framlingham.
Since being taken over in 2003 the Station has been developed into a destination for good food. Our ethos is to serve simple dishes prepared from fresh, local produce, while maintaining the relaxed, intimate environment of a country pub. Along with a wine list to match the quality of the menu, we are also committed to serving good quality, locally brewed real ales.
Over the summer the pub has a light and airy feel, with a secluded and well maintained beer garden available for drinking or dining. In the winter the open fire and original wood burner provide a warm, homely environment.
Our main bar has a warm friendly country charm.
It's not hard to spot the bar upon entry to the pub, it's straight ahead! To the right are some of the tables laid out for for eating and drinking as well as the all important chalk board which carries the latest information with regard to the food on offer. I say "Latest Information" as the menu constantly changes throughout the seasons pending the availability of fresh, local, produce. You'll definitely find something there to suit your tastes. What's more, if you contact them beforehand with any special eating requirements their chefs will be pleased to prepare something on the day of your booking suited to you.
With probably the biggest choice of menu around, full table service, delightful surroundings and value for money. You'd be hard pressed to find a better pub in the area. No doubt Gareth, the experienced head barman, will be on hand to greet you and then serve you the drink of your choice. If you're feeling adventurous, why not, engage him in a conversation about some of the drinks they have to offer! He could, very well, pleasantly surprise you with his suggestions as he has me. Not being a great fan of red wines myself, he suggested a wine, which, to my surprise has now become one of my most favourite tipples. If you'd like to know the name of this wine then read the "wines" section on this website!
Intimate meals with close friends and family.
To paraphrase: Nikolas Pevsner said...
"The function of a pub is company, human nearness, ...snugness not smugness."
Well I'd like to think that Nikolas would approve of the architecture of the Station Hotel as it doesn't seem to have a right-angle in the pub at all! And there's opportunity to hide yourselves away in The Station's Snug to the rear of the pub for a more intimate drink or a meal amongst friends. In the Summer months they've also a rather pretty, secluded garden to the rear, which proves to be a very popular place to eat and drink.
The atmosphere, of an evening, is improved greatly by the candles lit at each table. They provide soft, cheery, warm, dancing light throughout the whole pub. There's much to be said for getting here early and living the change from afternoon to evening.
Review by Andrew Rice, local food and wine critic and regular at the Station Hotel.
“Nothing would be more tiresome than eating and drinking if God had not made them a pleasure as well as a necessity.” - Voltaire
